Jonathan Majors' Lawyer Says Accuser Recanted Assault Claims

Jonathan Majors Arrested For Domestic Assault, Strangulation, And Harassment; Lawyer Claims Woman Recanted Allegations After His Arrest

This past weekend Jonathan Majors went from Black Twitter’s latest heartthrob to a recipient of side-eyes and backlash. New York police arrested the Creed III actor on Saturday morning following an alleged domestic dispute with a woman.

According to CNN, Jonathan Majors, 33, was arrested after a 911 call was made from an apartment located in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. A statement from the New York Police Department (NYPD) said that the victim had sustained minor injuries to her head and neck. The victim was identified as a 30-year-old woman.

Attorney Claims Jonathan Majors’ Accuser Was Having An “Emotional Crisis”

Though he was reportedly charged with assault, strangulation, and harassment, his lawyer claims he’s “completely innocent” with evidence to prove it. In statement shared with TMZ, the attorney claimed the actor is the actual victim.

“Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows. We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the district attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently,” Attorney Priya Chaudhry wrote.

The evidence Chaudhry mentioned allegedly includes video footage from the vehicle where the alleged assault happened, witness testimony from the driver and others, and two written statements from the woman involved. In the written statements, the woman allegedly recanted her allegations, per Chaudhry.

Jonathan’s lawyer also suggested the incident resulted from the woman having an emotional reaction.

“All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever. Unofrtunately, this incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday. The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested. We expect these charges to be dropped soon.”

U.S. Army Drops Jonathan Majors Ads Following Arrest News

Jonathan Majors is no longer in police custody as of Saturday evening. According to TMZ, a judge released him without bail. His charges, as mentioned, include misdemeanor assault, aggravated harassment, attempted assault, and harassment. His next court appearance is reportedly scheduled for May.

Meanwhile, the backlash against Jonathan for the allegations has already extended beyond social media platforms. Over the weekend, the U.S. Army pulled two recruiting ads featuring Majors.

“The U.S. Army is aware of the arrest of Jonathan Majors, and we are deeply concerned by the allegations surrounding his arrest. While Mr. Majors is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete,” the Army Enterprise Marketing Office said in a statement.

TMZ has suggested, per law enforcement sources, that the woman is Majors girlfriend. They claim jealousy sparked the incident, which included the woman confronting him over texting another woman. The outlet added that she tried to look at Majors’ phone, and he reacted angrily, allegedly grabbing her hand and slapping her.
