Journalist Responds After Viral Clip Appears To Show That She Mistook Daniel Kaluuya For Leslie Odom Jr.

Last night was a major win for Daniel Kaluuya, as he won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role as Fred Hampton in “Judas and the Black Messiah.” Following his big win he answered a few questions from the press, however, there is one moment from the press room that has since gone viral.

While speaking to one outlet, a journalist could be heard asking him, “I was wondering what it meant for you to be directed by Regina, what this means for you at this time with the world in the state that it’s in?” With a confused look on his face, Daniel asked to hear the question again, and the question was asked again, but Regina’s [King] name was omitted.

Also nominated in the best supporting actor category was Leslie Odom Jr. who starred in “One Night in Miami…,” which was directed by Regina King. Therefore, many people believed that the journalist may have mistaken Daniel for Leslie.

According to Vanity Fair, journalist Margaret Gardiner made it clear that she did not mistake Daniel for Leslie and said, “Daniel Kaluuya I did not mistake you for Leslie Odom Jnr. I’m sorry if it seemed that way. I had wanted to ask about Regina King not being nominated as a director for One Night in Miami, and your win for Judas and the Black Messiah for the community at this time.”

She continued to mention that there was an issue with the sound, so she proceeded to state her question again, but dropped Regina’s name the second time around as she restated her question, and asked Daniel what does his win mean to the community.
