After more than 200 hours of testimony and 56 witnesses, jurors have found Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán guilty of all 10 federal criminal counts.

According to CNN, the verdict was announced in a Brooklyn court on Tuesday. One of the top charges includes engaging in and continuing a criminal enterprise. The 61-year-old will be sentenced on June 25th and faces the possibility of life in prison.

After confirming the verdicts with the eight women and four men on the jury, US District Judge Brian Cogan reportedly said that they “made me very proud to be an American.”

Defense attorney Eduardo Balarezo said, “We are obviously disappointed with the jury’s verdict in the trial of Joaquín Guzmán Loera but are respectful of the process and the jury’s decision. We were faced with extraordinary and unprecedented obstacles in defending Joaquín.”

Fourteen of the witnesses that cooperated are mostly admitted drug traffickers and cartel associates. They reportedly cooperated with prosecutors as they hoped to decrease their own prison sentences.

The other counts that El Chapo faced included, “conspiracy to launder narcotics proceeds, international distribution of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and other drugs, and use of firearms.”
