Kanye West Buys His Childhood Chicago Home For $225,000 With Plans To Fully Renovate It

Just days after Forbes announced that he is a billionaire (a 3.3 billionaire to be exact) Kanye West is deciding to put his money to very sentimental use. According to recent reports, Kanye has purchased his childhood home for just under $250K—and he plans to do a full renovation to the southside Chicago property.

Kanye West owns multiple real estate properties, but his latest purchase is likely the one that means the most. @WGNNews reports, Kanye officially bought his childhood home in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood for $250,000 and expects to spend another $60,000 in repairs to the property to fully renovate it.

Donda West, Kanye’s late mother, originally bought the home back in the 1980s and sold it back in 2004—just a few short years before her untimely death. You may recall that after that it went through foreclosure and Kanye’s former friend/collaborator Rhymefest bought it with the hopes of turning it into a foundation in Donda’s honor, but after he and Ye had a very public falling out those plans fell through. The two eventually patched things up, but Kanye and wife Kim Kardashian decided to give his childhood home the proper treatment it deserved to honor his mother.

As of right now, the exact plans that Kanye has for the home have not been released to the public, but his foundation, Donda’s House, will likely play a large role in the ultimate vision he has for buying his former home.

Ever since she passed away back in 2007, Kanye has repeatedly stated the various ways he plans to honor his mother through his own work and the values and lessons she instilled in him throughout her career as an educator.
