Karrueche Tran & Marques Houston Talk A Weekend With The Family, Plus Someone’s Got New Music On The Way!!

Hey, Roommates! Marques Houston and Karrueche Tran are starring in a new film directed by Chris Stokes called A Weekend With The Family and it hits theaters today! It’s about an attorney named Travis (Houston) who scores a job at a prestigious law firm– meanwhile he’s secretly dating the boss’ daughter, Courtney, played by Karrueche! She tells us, “I actually find out that he wants to propose to me, so I plan a family get-together, but it all pretty much goes left from there! The families clash at first, because of cultural differences, but they eventually realize that they have a lot more in common than they thought.”

Just like her character, Courtney, Tran has a mixed heritage– she’s black and Vietnamese. The actress shared with us that she and her brother were the only two people in her family of mixed race and admitted that it wasn’t always easy being different. However, when we asked her about what she felt people’s issues are with interracial dating, she responded with, “I think people have a fear of what they don’t know. Travis’ family comes from the South and Courtney’s family is a very strict household with an Asian mother and African-American father, so they’re definitely not traditional either. However, when it comes to love, there isn’t really any color. It shouldn’t matter and that’s what the theme of the movie is.”

As for Marques, we asked him:

TSR: Have you ever had any experiences with interracial dating?

Marques: Yes! My mother was half Spanish, so since I grew up around Latinas, I’ve always being attracted to Spanish women. So, I dated a lot of Spanish women, I also dated some mixed Asian & Black women, so I was kinda used to it. It made it easier for me to apply to the film as far as being accepting of different cultures.

TSR: Since you have dated outside of your race, have you faced any challenges from the black community? Because for whatever reason, black men catch more heat for dating outside of their race.

Marques: Yes I have. I don’t pay attention to things or opinions of others, though. If you don’t know me personally, you really can’t speak on my situation. I believe that love has no race and that we should be allowed to fall in love and date whichever race we want without people saying anything. But hey, it’s always gonna happen so you just have to be happy with who you’re with.

TSR: One more question! We’re very happy for you landing this movie role, but when are you coming back on the music scene?! We’re all dying to know, because R&B still needs you!

Marques: Soon! Stay tuned I got some new music coming soon!!
There you have it, Roommates! A Weekend With The Family hits theaters today!!! Thank you Marques and Karrueche and good luck!
