Sometimes the past hits differently when youre looking back as adultsand thats exactly what happened when Keke Palmer and Demi Lovato got real about their teenage relationships. On a recent episode of Kekes ‘Baby, This is Keke Palmer’ podcast, the two reflected on dating older men as teens, revealing just how much perspective changes with age.
During this weeks episode, Keke said, “Im fifteen, why was my boyfriend 20?”as she reflected on her early years in the spotlight, including her time on ‘True Jackson, VP.’ She explained that the dynamics that once seemed normal now feel like exploitation. The moment when you realize[men] were taking advantage, she admitted. As a mom to three-year-old Leo with ex Darius Jackson, Keke also applauded fellow child stars, like Hilary Duff, for using music to highlight similar experiences, noting that songs like Duffs 2025 hit ‘Mature’ capture the reality many young stars faced while being told they were mature for [their] age.
Lovato, 33, chimed in with her own reflection: Why was my boyfriend 30? The singer, who dated Wilmer Valderrama for six years, shared how her experiences as a child actor shaped her maturity and perspective on relationships. Demi Lovato also revealed how she processes these experiences through music, referencing her 2022 release ’29,’ which touches on age gaps and consent: Far from innocent / what the f–k’s consent? / Numbers told you not to / but that didn’t stop you. She encouraged Keke to listen, saying the song captures feelings they both can relate to.
Fans immediately stormed TSRs Instagram comment section and went off. Some were asking where their mommas were when they were dating older men as teens, while others shared their own age-gap stories from adolescence. A few more chimed in just to celebrate Keke and Demi, saying its refreshing to see both women grow and reflect on those past experiences.
