Keri Hilson is dropping her thoughts on dating athletes and spillin’ some game for the ladies looking to get with one. The R&B singer kept it real about men in the sports world while appearing on Cam Newton’s ‘Funky Friday’ podcast and she didnt hold back with her words either.
In Cam Newtons latest episode, released on Friday, April 18, Keri Hilson shared her opinion on dating athletes. She spoke from experience, telling Newton that athletes can sometimes struggle with maturity, which, in return, leaves women feeling unfulfilled.
I think that you guys have relationally, youre stunted because a lot of people have appeased and placated you, and so youve gotten your way with women, with teachers, with sometimes pastors, she said.
Hilson went on to explain during the interview how the high-pressure world of sports can prevent their ability to connect with their partners on a deeper level, because people dont want to stand in their way. Because of that, the Superhuman hitmaker stressed that while athletes might bring the charm and the checks, their focus on the game often leaves little room for building a strong relationship.
Women dont challenge a certain side of you relationally. In my experience, that was apparent, that just stunted emotionally, like, learning things, were talking in 30s, that maybe someone at 21 wouldve known,” she added.
When Newton interjected by asking Keri Hilson to elaborate, she mentioned honesty, expressiveness, and maturity as things that were usually lacking in those relationships. Id agree with you, he responded. But it wasnt your focus, Hilson added, You were paid to run the ball down the field. Your job had to run precedence over a lot of things. So, it’s not your fault at all, really.”
“I think you said it in a nutshell, you haven’t learned how to love. That’s a talent, a tool that you haven’t needed. I couldn’t pinpoint one thing for you when you asked me what things. It’s really all of it as it pertains to love,” Hilton continued to tell Newton.
Keri had the internet on fire when she appeared on ‘The Breakfast Club’ and spilled all the tea about those lyrics from 2009’s ‘Turnin’ Me On’ remix that had folks swearing she was throwing jabs at Beyonc. But Hilson dropped a bombshell, saying, I didnt write them. I was forced to sing them, claiming her label made her record the remix despite her protests.
Keri never mentioned anyone by name, butEster Dean ultimately came forward. Dean went on to admit that she had written parts of the song and issued an apologetic response. But Hilson wasnt here for the apology after all these years and clapped back, You chose to stay quiet for 16 years, but coming out now, when you felt a portion of the heat Ive gotten for something you wrote? Nah.
