On Monday, Kirk Franklin took to social media to announce his decision to boycott the Dove Awards, as well as the Trinity Broadcasting Network. He is claiming that in the past he has made mention of situations that involve police brutality during his acceptance speech. However, those parts of his speech reportedly never made into the broadcast.
Most recently, he has made mention of the murder of Atatiana Jefferson during his acceptance speech at this year’s Dove Awards, and he claims that part of his speech was cut out. However, that is not the first time that this has happened.
According to Billboard, back in 2016 he and during his speech he made mention of the deaths of Philando Castille, Walter Scott and the five Dallas officers that were killed by a sniper.
He said he made his frustrations surrounding the incident known to the Dove Awards committee and the Trinity Broadcasting Network. The Dove Awards reportedly claimed that it wouldn’t happen again, while he says he never heard from TBN.
Fast-forwarding to this year, the same incident has occurred once again, and this time he taking a stand by boycotting both the award show and the network. He continued to say, “Not only did they edit my speech, they edited the African American experience.”
