It’s a great day to be a Black woman! According to CBS Sports, the Las Vegas Raiders have made history by hiring Sandra Douglass Morgan as the team’s new president. In this monumental role, Sandra is the first Black female to hold the position of team president in NFL history.
In a letter from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sandra addressed the team, saying, “I look forward to meeting each of you in person over the coming weeks.” Sandra has an amazing work history. Reports show that she was vice-chair of the Las Vegas Super Bowl host committee before her new role with the Raiders.
Sis was getting to the bag! Sandra was also the former chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, a position she held from 2019 to 2021. In addition, Sandra also served as a city attorney for Las Vegas from 2013 to 2016 and as a litigation attorney from MGM International.
Sandra’s hire marks the third Raiders team president in less than a year. In her role, she will be tasked with stabilizing the Raiders amid complaints about owner Mark Davis and his workplace behavior. If you’re unfamiliar with the drama in May, former Raiders president Dan Ventrelle says he was fired for reporting hostile work environment claims to the NFL.
Dan told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he ignored the concerns once he reported the claims to Mark Davis. Sandra addressed issues with Mark stating, “Let me be clear — I am not here to avoid or sidestep problems or concerns that need to be addressed. I’ve given long and thoughtful consideration to joining you, and I’ve done so because I believe in the promise of the Raiders.” She continued,
“Most importantly, I believe in your core values of integrity, community, and commitment to excellence. I will expect you to embody those and to hold me accountable to doing the same.”
