Lauryn Hill and D’Angelo teamed up for her 1998 classic neo-soul hit, ‘Nothin Even Matters,’ which appears on her iconic album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.’ After hearing about his passing, Lauryn shared a heartfelt tribute and several photos of him on Instagram. In her message, she admitted she wished they had more time together and praised his unmatched talent.

“You sir, moved us, stirred us, inspired and even intimidated others to action with your genius. Thank you for being a beacon of light to a generation and beyond who had no remembrance of the legacy that preceded us. Thank you for charting the course and for making space during a time when no similar space really existed. You imaged a unity of strength and sensitivity in Black manhood to a generation that only saw itself as having to be one or the other,” Hill wrote.

Beyonc Speaks Out Following R&B Icon’s Passing

In addition to Lauryn Hill, Beyonc shared her own heartfelt words for D’Angelo. Bey paid tribute to the 51-year-old on her website, calling him a pioneer and noting that fans will never forget his talent.

Rest in peace, Michael Eugene Archer, known to the world of music as the inimitable DAngelo. We thank you for your beautiful music, your voice, your proficiency on the piano, your artistry. You were the pioneer of neo-soul and that changed and transformed rhythm & blues forever. We will never forget you,” Beyonc wrote.

On Tuesday, October 14, the music world lost a legend. Fans were devastated when news broke that D’Angelo had died at 51 after a private battle with pancreatic cancer. His passing comes just a few months after Angie Stone, the mother of one of his sons, tragically died in a fatal car accident in March.
