Laverne Cox Takes Accountability For “Entanglement” Comment Made To Will Smith & Jada Pinkett-Smith

Laverne Cox is clearing the air and addressing her “entanglement” comment to Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith during the SAG awards last weekend. If you recall, Laverne caught heat from Vivica A. Fox who said Laverne’s comment was “Tacky.” Today, Laverne hopped on Instagram to clarify what she meant during the quick interview.

In a lengthy live stream conversation, the actress started addressing Vivica’s concerns about the wrong place and time to make such a comment. Although she said that it was a joke, Laverne held herself accountable. “I’ve been thinking about it. No one is above critique. I like to hold myself accountable. This is part of my process as a human being. When I’m wrong, I try to promptly admit it,” she said. As the live continued, Laverne detailed how much she loved Jada’s show ‘Red Table Talk’ and her love for the Smiths.

Laverne admitted her error was that she wanted to say so much to the couple, but she didn’t have enough time, doubling down that the joke was taken out of context. “My intent was not to mock or make fun of but obviously, I understand there is a difference between intent and impact,” she added. Towards the end of the conversation, some of the viewers asked Laverne if she would apologize, to which she quickly objected.

“I did not apologize. This is not an apology. If the Smiths need an apology from me, I will find out privately, and I’ll do that privately,” she explained. While reiterating that her words were not to serve as an apology, she offered that they should be viewed as a love letter. “This is a love letter to them and an invitation to think critically about our relationship to what we call ” mess.”

Roommates, do you think Laverne owes Will and Jada an apology?
