LeBron James Named The Male Athlete Of The Decade By The Associated Press

Yesterday, the Associated Press announced Serena Williams as their Female Athlete of the Decade, and now they have announced their male athlete. It is no surprise that LeBron has earned the title after everything he has accomplished within the past 10 years.

From leaving Cleveland for Miami to winning a championship in Miami, and later returning home to Cleveland to help bring a championship, to now on his journey as a Laker, he has had an amazing 10 years on the court. However, his work off the court has also made him loved by many. Whether it was the opening of his I Promise School in his hometown or even the different charity work he has done throughout the years, there is no doubt he has been a fan favorite.

He said to AP,” You add another 10 years of learning and adversity, pitfalls, good, great, bad, and any smart person who wants to grow will learn from all those experiences. A decade ago, I just turned 25. I’m about to be 35 and I’m just in a better (place) in my life and have a better understanding of what I want to get out of life.”

At the start of the decade, he was listed as No. 124 on the NBA’s All-Time Scoring List, he currently sits the No. 4 spot, behind Kobe Bryant who is at No. 3, Karl Malone who is No. 2 and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who is at No. 1.

When asked if he would be coming for that No. 1 spot within the next decade, he said, “I would be lying if I said I don’t see it. Obviously I’m not trying to say, ‘OK, well if I play this amount of time, if I average this’ … I’m not doing that because I’ve never done that with my career. I’ve always just kind of let it happen. Whatever happens, happens. But I see it. I do see it.”

Congrats to LeBron James for receiving such an honor and always pushing the limit.
