#Wepa!! Puerto Rican playwright, Lin-Manuel Miranda, just won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama yesterday for Hamilton! The hip-hop musical chronicles the life of Alexander Hamilton who was the first US treasury secretary and it has captured the hearts of pretty much everyone that has witnessed the production on Broadway.
The announcement was made by Mike Pride, administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes, during a ceremony at New York City’s Columbia University. “I think that we had a very good field in drama this year,” he told media, “and there was just one play that really stood out to our board, and that was Hamilton.”
No wonder why Miranda has earned the Pulitzer Prize– the show is experiencing immense success! According to Buzzfeed, “The New York Times reported last week the show earns more than $500,000 in profit every week.” $500k PER WEEK?! Chile, let me go take some theater classes!
