Lizzo Wins ‘Entertainer Of The Year’ At The 2020 NAACP Image Awards

The 2020 NAACP Image Awards were overflowing with #BlackGirlMagic—and one of the most memorable instances of the night came from superstar Lizzo. She was nominated against several Hollywood heavyweights for ‘Entertainer Of The Year’ and managed to win the award due to her incredibly successful year.

Lizzo has literally been killing it in practically every area and at practically every awards show all of 2019 and into 2020—and her latest win is another triumph. Up against stiff competition that included Angela Bassett, Tyler Perry, Billy Porter and Regina King, Lizzo came out on top as the ‘Entertainer Of The Year.’ However, the only thing better than her snagging the night’s top honor was her beautiful speech that received a warm round of applause.

During her speech, Lizzo acknowledged the legendary Angela Bassett, saying:

“I got to meet all of my heroes tonight in this room. Ms. Angela Bassett. Thank you for this award, it says that I’m the ‘Entertainer Of The Year,’ but you are the Entertainer period…PERIOD!”

She also had special message:

“I just wanna shout out all of the big, black girls that I bring on stage with me. I do that because I want them to know they are the trophies. And since this is the final award of the night, I don’t even wanna make it about me. Every last one of you, you are the award, you are so special, we are such a beautiful people, this is just a reminder of all of the incredible things that we can do. God bless you, and keep on being an award! Let’s go!”

Congrats, Lizzo!
