A Catholic school principal from Louisiana has resigned after he was arrested while visiting a Washington D.C. strip club during a school field trip.
I’m sure he didn’t plan on going out like that but it sounds like the higher-ups caught wind of his arrest and he took action. Diocese of Baton Rouge spokesman Dan Borne said Michael Comeau was arrested early Thursday in Washington, D.C., where he was with students from Holy Family Catholic School, a K-8 school in #PortAllen, @nbcwashington reports.
According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to Archibald’s Gentlemen’s Club regarding a complaint about “an intoxicated man refusing to pay his bill.”
The principal is now facing charges of public intoxication and possession of an open container of alcohol. It wasn’t immediately clear if he attained an attorney or if one will be appointed to him.
Borne reported that Comeau has since resigned and an interim principal will be appointed to the school.
Comeau also reportedly resigned from his position as a reserve Brusly Police officer.
Here’s the official statement from officials:
“The Diocese of Baton Rouge confirmed today that Michael Comeau, principal at Holy Family School in Port Allen, was arrested on May 30 while on a school sponsored trip to Washington, DC. The incident occurred when the students on the trip were in their hotel rooms for the evening under the supervision of other chaperones. Mr. Comeau had been principal of Holy Family School for five years and prior to that time had served in public education in the surrounding area. Mr. Comeau has submitted his resignation as principal and an interim principal will be appointed.”
We understand that kids might stress teachers and staff out and adults have different ways to unwind but it seems like common sense wasn’t that common here. Or at least, if you are going to do something that you know would be frowned on by your employer, don’t get caught.
Stay here for the latest, Roommates.
