Lyft Takes A Stance Against Trump’s Immigration Actions, And Promises To Donate $1Million To The ACLU

On Saturday many protests occurred at airports throughout the country as passengers were being detained due to Donald Trump’s immigrant ban. His ban was eventually brought to a temporary halt thanks to the federal court for the Eastern District of New York.

Now the transportation company Lyft is taking a stance against Donald Trump’s actions and showing their support. In a letter to their customers they said, “We stand firmly against these actions, and will not be silent on issues that threaten the values of our community.”

They also vowed to donate a total of $1,000,000 over the next four years to the ACLU, which is the American Civil Liberties Union.

It was the ACLU that filed a lawsuit against Trump’s administration for the ban on behalf of Hameed Khalid Darweesh and Sameer Abdulkhaleq Alshawi, two men detained at John F. Kennedy airport.

They were successful in getting a temporary stay of the order from a federal judge late Saturday.

Many people have been to questioning Lyft’s competitor Uber, as their CEO Travis Kalanick has recently been named among the 19 executives who will provide economic advice to Donald Trump.

Customers also grew angry with the company after they continued to service passengers at JFK airport, as Taxi drivers went on strike in support of the protest at the airport. This has resulted into many people deleting the app from their phones and starting the #DeleteUber trend on social media.
