Mackenzie Shirilla is still pushing for a “fair retrial” after a jury convicted her in the 2022 deaths of her boyfriend and their friend. Shirilla is reportedly faces 15 years to life behind bars after authorities say she crashed her car into a wall at 100mph, killing her boyfriend Dominic Russo and their friend Davion Flanagan.

The film dives into the July 2022 car crash in Strongsville, Ohio, where Shirilla drove into a building at 100mph, killing her boyfriend and their friend. The documentary breaks down her case, features body cam footage, and include Mackenzie’s first-ever prison sit-down interview.

In the film, Mackenzie maintains her innocence and points to her POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) diagnosis as a factor in the incident. In August 2023. a jury convicted her on multiple charges, including murder, aggravated vehicular homicide, and felonious assault. She reportedly later received two concurrent sentences of 15 years to life. Since then, Mackenzie has continued pushing for a retrial.

Mackenzie NEW Prison Photo As She Continues Fighting For Retrial

Recently, Mackenzie’s team shared a new prison selfie on Instagram showing her posing in a navy blue long-sleeve shirt with her bone straight hair. In the caption, her team said she’s “trying to do better every day” and continues to “hold onto hope.” Additionally, Shirilla’s legal team shared that she lost her post-conviction relief request because her attorney filed it one day late due to a leap year deadline technicality. On Tuesday, July 7, Shirilla’s legal team filed a new motion asking the Ohio Supreme Court to take another look at her appeal, claiming the deadline rules caused confusion.However, her family says they’re still doing everything they can to help her secure a retrial.

“Mackenzie and her family (along with everyones help) will respectfully continue to do everything they can so that the merits of the brief can be heard, just as anyone else would do in their position,” Shirilla’s team wrote in the caption.

Mackenzie’s Latest Update Has Social Media Sounding OFF

Once Mackenzie’s team shared her latest prison update, folks flooded the comment section with reactions. Some revisited details from her case, while others made it clear that they don’t believe a retrial should be on the table.

Mackenzie’s team previously spoke out about her sentencing and shared a prison selfie along with a message from her on Instagram. They said Mackenzie wanted to thank everyone who sees through what she calls lies and has formed their own opinions about the incident and her case. She also shared her love for her boyfriend Dominic and their friend Davion. Mackenzie added that she plans to continue fighting for her innocence and appreciates those who continue standing with her and advocating for her freedom.
