UPDATE: Colt Gray’s Mother Reportedly Warned Apalachee High School Moments Before Deadly Shooting

New details have surfaced about the events leading up to the September 4 shooting at Apalachee High School, reportedly initiated by 14-year-old suspect Colt Gray. Reports show his mother, Marcee Gray, contacted the school moments before the incident.

Texts obtained by The Washington Post reveal that Marcee Gray called a school counselor that morning about an “extreme emergency” with her son, emphasizing the need to find him.

Charles Polhamus, Colt Gray’s grandfather, said his mother contacted the school after receiving a text from him that read, “I’m sorry mom,” per USA Today.

The family’s call log from their phone plan shows Marcee’s 10-minute call to the school at 9:50 a.m., moments before Colt reportedly opened fire at 10:20 a.m

I was the one that notified the school counselor at the high school. I told them it was an extreme emergency and for them to go immediately and find [my son] to check on him,” according to a screenshot of a text exchange between Marcee and her sister.

Per The Washington Post, the school and Colt’s family discussed his mental state a week before the shooting through text messages. Additionally, Annie Brown, Marcee’s sister, informed another relative that Colt was experiencing homicidal and suicidal thoughts at the time.

Marcee described the shooting as “absolutely horrific” and conveyed her deep regret for the impact on students and teachers.

I am so, so sorry and can not fathom the pain and suffering they are going through right now, Gray wrote in a text to The Washington Post.

Details About The Suspect & More Info About His Father’s Arrest

TSR previously reported Colt Gray’s arrest following the September 4 shooting that killed four and injured nine.The teen was a student at the high school.

Per NBC News, the victims are 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, 53-year-old Christina Irmie, and 39-year-old Richard Aspinwall.

TMZ obtained Colt’s mugshot the day after the tragic incident. AP confirms that authorities are charging the 14-year-old as an adult with four felony counts of murder.

Colin Gray, Colt’s father, has also faced arrest in connection with the school shooting.

According to The New York Post, Colin Gray, 54, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and cruelty to children.

Authorities are investigating whether Colin bought an AR-15-style rifle for Colt in December 2023.

CBS News revealed that in May 2023, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office questioned Colt and Colin after the FBI identified online threats concerning a school shooting. The FBI later stated that investigators lacked sufficient evidence to arrest anyone or pursue further action. Colt denied making the threats when questioned.
