Allen Iverson is hailed as one of the NBA’s most flashiest ballers of the 20th century and nowadays has little to show for it. His spending habits were so out of control that he would allegedly spend thousands of dollars on new clothes just because he didn’t like luggage when he traveled!
It wasn’t until 2006 that newbie to the 76ers, Matt Barnes, was really exposed to the lavish lifestyles of basketball players. He reminisces with Sports Illustrated saying that whenever the team frequented strip clubs, Iverson would make it rain!
“That guy went. HARD,” says Barnes. “He’d throw so much money, and this was when I was first in the league, that I used to take my foot and scoop the shit under my chair and either re-throw it or put some in my pocket. He’d throw $30,000, $40,000 every time we went. I’m like, ‘You realize what I can do with this money?’”
That is a lot of damn money! But it’s funny how the tables has turned, whereas Matt Barnes is now making an estimated $19.1 million over his basketball career, Iverson is only averaging about $65,000 a month with bills totaling almost $350,000 monthly. Iverson does have a $30 million Reebok trust fund but he can’t even touch it until the year 2030!
Iverson better start counting up receipts and ask Barnes for some of that money back because we bet if he knew back then what he knows now, his life would have been much different! Let’s chat below !
