Roommates, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their baby boy Archie back in 2019, and after an updated version of Archie’s birth certificate was released over the weekend, sources are coming to the defense of Buckingham Palace.
It was initially reported by Page Six that Meghan said she was forced to change her name on baby Archie’s birth certificate by officials at Buckingham Palace. Sources, however, have now come forward to slam the allegations, claiming The Palace had nothing to do with the amendment.
Originally, Meghan’s name was registered as “Rachel Meghan, Her Royal Highness The Duchess Of Sussex,” and it was later amended to “Her Royal Highness The Duchess Of Sussex” that June. Prince Henry’s name, however, is still listed alongside his royal title. His name currently reads “His Royal Highness Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke Of Sussex” on the document.
“The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials. This was not requested by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex nor by The Duke Of Sussex,” the original statement read.
Sources close to the situation have come to the defense of The Palace, claiming that officials are “baffled” at Meghan’s claims.
“This is totally baffling. The Palace did not dictate anything, this amendment was made by staff within their former office at Kensington Palace and higher-ups at Buckingham Palace were always kept in the loop,” one source said.
“The birth certificate was changed by the former Office of The Duke and Duchess to ensure consistency in the name and title of The Duchess of Sussex with other private documents,” another source confirmed.
