Melania Trump’s approval rating is already low as she prepares to leave the White House and now that she’s breaking a long-standing first lady tradition, like limbo, how low can that approval rating go?
We imagine it could go even lower now that it’s being reported Melania Trump is going to be the first modern first lady to not give the incoming first lady a tour of the White House. Dating back to Bess Truman and all the way to Michelle Obama, who gave the tour to Melania, first ladies are expected to show the incoming first lady around their new private living quarters–even if politically they don’t see eye to eye.
President-elect Joe Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, said today that Melania has NOT reached out to her mother, Dr. Jill Biden, about arranging the traditional procedures for the transition of power.
“I don’t think they’re doing the traditional protocol, which is unfortunate, but I think we are all OK with it,” Ashley Biden said in an interview with Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, on NBC’s “Today.”
Well the thing about that is, Jill Biden’s been in the White House once when Joe was Vice President so in other words, she is not new to this, she’s true to this.
But that doesn’t mean that what Melania is doing is justifiable. Both Melania and her husband have been criticized for their lack of civility and grace.
Melania Trump’s decision not to facilitate a “tea and tour” at the White House represents a break with tradition even though Melania Trump was invited by then-first lady Michelle Obama to have tea and tour the White House in 2017 as the Trump administration took hold.
Melania, who released a farewell video message reflecting her work the past four years on Monday, is expected to depart Washington, D.C., with Trump on Wednesday morning for Palm Beach, Florida, according to The Hill.
While Trump has acknowledged the start of a new administration Wednesday, he has not explicitly stated that Biden won the election after numerous false claims that the election was rigged so I can’t imagine why his wife would break character now.
Anyway, we wish everyone who will be in D.C. on Wednesday a safe time.
