Michael Jordan & The Jordan Brand Donate $1 Million To Morehouse College’s Journalism & Sport Program

I know that’s right! Last year Michael Jordan announced that he and the Jordan Brand would pledge $1 million over the next 10 years to various nationwide organizations, and he’s staying true to his word! According to ESPN, the organizations chosen are dedicated to ensuring racial equality, social justice, and greater access to education. The Jordan Brand will focus on increasing its work in communities across the U.S. to provide access to education and create opportunities for future generations. In addition, supporting organizations that work to ensure policy change in local government. Fortunately, Michael is using his money to go towards HBCUs, which are very underfunded!

Yesterday, it was announced that Michael and the Jordan Brand are giving $1 million to Morehouse College’s journalism and sports-related programs. The funds will be used to elevate their scholarships, technology, and educational programming for current students. Also, the program focuses on the lack of Black leadership in the journalism and athletic industry. So far, more than 80 graduates have completed the program and have landed careers in media and sports.

Monique Dozier, Morehouse’s Vice President For Institutional Advancement, spoke out about the donation. “Morehouse is grateful to Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand for an investment in the education of talented men of color who will ensure there is equity, balance, and truth in the way sports stories are framed and the way the Black experience is contextualized within American history,” said Monique.

Overall the donation is a part of a more significant donation by Michael and the Jordan Brand called the “Black Community Commitment.” The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Ida B. Wells Society are among some of the other organizations that have received donations.

We Love To See It!
