Minnesota Attorney General Announces Charges For The 3 Other Officers Involved In George Floyd’s Death, Derek Chauvin’s Charges Upgraded To Second-Degree Murder

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has announced charges for the three remaining officers involved in the killing of George Floyd. Those three officers are Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Keung.

Ellison also said Derek Chauvin, the officer who knelt on George for nearly nine minutes, will now be charged with second-degree murder. The three other officers were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

These updates are in line with the demands made by protesters calling for justice in George’s name across the nation and the globe.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar announced the information prior to the press conference following word from George Floyd’s family lawyer about the forthcoming charges.

Additional footage of George Floyd’s death showed three officers pinning him down while he struggled to breathe. People felt that evidence alone warranted all officers involved being charged.

It took nearly a week for these additional charges to come forward. Last Friday, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced the arrest of Chauvin on a third-degree murder charge. Freeman said then that Chauvin could be facing subsequent charges following the investigation.
