Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar Reportedly Files For Divorce

Roommates, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has reportedly filed for divorce, apparently for the second time, according to TMZ.

According to court records, obtained by TMZ, the representative filed for divorce on Friday in Minnesota from her husband, Ahmed Hirsi, who is also the father of her 3 children.

The filing comes immediately on the heels of Representative Omar denying a split from her husband. The breakup rumors started after he campaign consultant Tim Mynett’s wife filed for divorce after an alleged affair between Mynett and Omar, She also denied the affair.

A representative for Omar speaks on her behalf, saying the divorce is taking a “significant toll” on the entire family.

“As with all marriages, this is intensely personal and a difficult time for their family. For years, Ilhan and Ahmed have been the object of speculation and innuendo from political opponents and the media.”

The statement continues saying:

“This has taken a significant toll on Ilhan, Ahmed, and their three children. Just like any other family navigating this kind of transition, Ilhan wishes to have their privacy respected for themselves and their children and will not be commenting any further.”

Although the reasoning for their split has not been explicit spoken on, the divorce documents express theres been an “retrievable breakdown of the marriage relationship.” Ilhan states the couple has three minor children, who she wants joint legal and physical custody of, and wants to deny spousal support to each side.

Omar reportedly wants the court to decide on child support, as she has not indicated who should receive it.

Ilhan was first married in a religious ceremony in 2002, but the union was not recognized legally. She then went on to marry another man named Ahmed in Minneapolis in 2009, and they split in 2011.

Ilhan hasn’t reached out in regards to their split, but we wish them the best in the process.
