Missy Elliott To Receive An Honorary Doctorate From Berklee College Of Music

Missy Elliott is one of the three musicians that is scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music in Boston.

According to Billboard, Missy, Justin Timberlake, and Alex Lacamoire will receive their honorary degrees during the school’s commencement ceremony on May 11th.

The honorary doctorate recognizes their “achievements and influences in music, and for their enduring global impact.”

Missy is will reportedly become the first female hip-hop artist to receive a doctorate from Berklee College of Music. She took to Twitter to express her excitement and said, “I am sooooo HUMBLED!”

This is not the first time that Missy will be making history this year. As we previously reported, she will become the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June.

Past recipients of the honorary doctorate also include Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, B.B. King, Smokey Robinson, and many other great musicians.

Students are scheduled to tribute this year’s honorees by performing music associated with their careers.
