Monica Responds To Patrick Howley’s Racist Comments About Black Celebrities Attending The CMT Awards

Monica had time early Wednesday to respond to reporter Patrick Howley after his disturbing comments about Black celebrities being present during this year’s CMT Awards.

Following this year’s show, Howley made disturbing comments while speaking about the Black community as clips of Anthony Mackie, who served as one of the hosts for this year’s show, played in the background. He said,

“I don’t know who this Black guy is who’s hosting it, this supposed to be country music…no offense, I mean ya’ll have hip-hop and basketball. Just fly with your flock bro. I’m not against you, but you’re up here like ‘the melanated people invented country music. We was making in Wakanda before Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard done stole the Black mans country music.'”

Howley proceeded to sit up on his platform to say there were so many Black people present at this year’s award that have nothing to do with the genre of music, before saying country music is different and is not Wakanda.

Monica, who was also present during this year’s award show as she performed alongside Jimmie Allen and Little Big Town, shared a headline from The Source, which read, “White Reporter Slams Anthony Mackie & Monica For Attending CMT Awards,” and she politely put Howley in his place.

She said,

“I’ve never been more motivated.. Patrick Howley, although your feelings are likely shared by some, it’s NOT by the masses! I have an all-star LEGENDARY team of true country artists that are currently working with me that would beg to differ! Because of the genuine hearts of @lesliefram1 & @cmt … I shared the stage w/ @jimmieallen & @littlebigtown …This was the first of many times that you will see me! I see You caught that my skin is melanated, but you missed that it was tough! I’m rooted in the word & built to last!”

CMT showed their support to Monica and commented on her post saying,

“WE love you. Your performance at the show with @jimmieallen and @littlebigtown was magical. AND we can’t wait for the new music you’ve got coming soon.”

As previously reported, last year Monica opened up about working on a country album and shared that she loved the genre of music since she was a little girl.
