Mountain Dew To Release New Malt Liquor Version ‘Hard Mountain Dew’ Early Next Year

Roommates, if you love Mountain Dew, get ready for a new version that is strictly for adults only! The popular soda brand just announced its plans to release a malt liquor called “Hard Mountain Dew” that is set to drop in the first half of 2022.

Mountain Dew is officially teaming up with PepsiCo and Boston Beer to bring consumers an alcoholic version of the popular soft drink, called “Hard Mountain Dew.” While Boston Beer will develop and produce the drink, Pepsi will sell, deliver and market the beverage, that is said to reach store shelves in the beginning of 2022.

“Hard Mountain Dew” is a flavored malt liquor that will contain an estimated 5% alcohol by volume. Additionally, it will also be free of any sugar, as evidenced by the newly released images of the product.

Back in October of 2020, Pepsi CEO Ramon Laguarta alluded that the company would be considering an official move into the alcoholic beverage space—especially since long rival Coca-Cola had already announced it would release the alcoholic Topo Chico Seltzer. Meanwhile, Pepsi filed a formal trademark application in June to sell Rockstar-branded beer and hard seltzer.

If you’re a long-time fan, you might recall that Pepsi has been trying to use the Mountain Dew name for years to move into new categories, such as energy drinks, recently launching Mtn Dew Rise Energy earlier this year.
