MSCHF To Recall Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan Shoes’ After Reaching Settlement With Nike (Update)

TSR Updatez: The company who partnered with Lil Nas X to create his “Satan Shoes” will now have to issue a voluntary recall of the sneakers as part of its settlement with Nike.

The sneaker giant took MSCHF to court after it collaborated with Lil Nas X to customize the Air Max 97s that allegedly feature a drop of human blood. Nike claimed it in no way authorized the production and sale of the shoe and in turn, sued the art collective for trademark and infringement.

Well, after Nike saw a small win in court last week when a judge granted the block and sale of the shoe, the companies have finally settled the case. According to NBC News, MSCHF will issue a voluntary recall for the shoe, which was priced at $1,018. On brand with the whole devil theme, the company produced 666 pairs that sold out in less than a minute.

MSCHF agreed to settle the lawsuit after realizing it “already achieved its artistic purpose,” an attorney for the company told NBC News.

The shoes dropped at the same time Lil Nas X released the music video for his single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name). In the video, Lil Nas X is seduced out of what appears to be the Garden of Eden, falls into hell and gives the devil a lap dance.

“With these Satan Shoes — which sold out in less than a minute — MSCHF intended to comment on the absurdity of the collaboration culture practiced by some brands, and about the perniciousness of intolerance” the lawyer said.

MSCHF will also offer a buy-back program for previously released modified Nike sneakers it called “Jesus Shoes,” Nike confirmed to NBC News on Thursday.

“If any purchasers were confused, or if they otherwise want to return their shoes, they may do so for a full refund,” Nike said in a statement, reaffirming that it had nothing to do with the shoes. “Purchasers who choose not to return their shoes and later encounter a product issue, defect or health concern should contact MSCHF, not Nike.”
