Multiple Fatalities Reported After Police Chase Involving A Stolen UPS Truck Ends In A Shootout

On Thursday, multiple fatalities were reported after a police chase with a stolen UPS truck ended with a shootout.

According to the Associated Press, a UPS driver was kidnapped by at least two robbery suspects who led a two-county police chase. Unfortunately, things ended in a shootout, which led to multiple fatalities.

The whole incident began a little after 4pm after authorities in Coral Gables received a silent alarm at the Regent Jewelers store in the Miracle Mile area. During a press conference, it was reported that two suspects were present at the store when police arrived and shots were exchanged.

Shortly after they were able to get away in a truck and they then hijacked a UPS truck along with its driver and started a police chase that would take place along the Southern portion of Broward County. The chase came to a stop once the truck ended up behind several cars at a crowded intersection.

Local news outlets were able to capture footage from a helicopter showing the police chase, and also the exchange of gunfire.

Coral Gables Police Chief Edward Hudak Jr. said, “This is what dangerous people do to get away, and this is what dangerous people will do to avoid capture.”

A spokesman for UPS said they are staying in contact following the incident, but they have not released any information about the driver involved at the moment.
