#Roommates, the minimum wage in St. Louis will soon see a 23 percent decrease. According to reports, a new law was just passed that will lower the city’s minimum wage from $10 an hour to $7.70!

According to CNN, the ordinance will go into effect on August 28, and the news comes as city’s murder rate is on the rise. It was reported that there were roughly 59 murders per every 100,000 people earler this year. The Wall Street Journal reported today that Missouri’s governor Eric Greitens is making a push to combat violent crime in St. Louis, which he calls “the most dangerous city in the United States of America.” He deployed a group of state troopers in the the city Sunday night.

The minimum wage cut definitely come as a blow to some residents, because just two years ago they celebrated a victory of having wages increased to $10 an hour. If it wasn’t for this new law, residents would have seen an increase to $11 per hour in January 2018.

#Roommates, is this fair to the residents of St. Louis? Share your thoughts in the comments.
