NAACP Files Lawsuit Against Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani & The Proud Boys For U.S. Capitol Riots And False Claims Of Election Fraud

#Roommates, Donald Trump may no longer be in office, but his legal issues continue to pile up—and the latest includes the NAACP. In recently filed court documents, the NAACP is officially naming Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani and more in a lawsuit regarding their alleged involvement in the riots at the U.S. Capitol last month, along with their continuous false claims of election fraud.

@NYTimes reports, the NAACP formally filed a federal lawsuit against disgraced former President Donald Trump and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani—claiming that they violated a 19th century legal statute when they attempted to prevent the certification of the 2020 presidential election when they encouraged the U.S. Capitol riots on January 6th. The lawsuit states that both Trump and Giuliani violated the Ku Klux Klan Act, an 1871 statute that includes protections against violent conspiracies that interfered with Congress’s constitutional duties.

The lawsuit also names far-right extremist group, the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers militia group. The legal action further alleges that Trump, Giuliani, the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers conspired to incite a violent riot at the U.S. Capitol, with the ultimate goal of preventing Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election in President Joe Biden’s favor.

The NAACP brought the lawsuit on behalf of Representative Bennie Thompson, Democrat of Mississippi, as well as other Democrats in Congress, including Hank Johnson of Georgia and Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey–who are all expected to join the lawsuit within the next weeks.

This is the latest in an ongoing list of legal troubles for Trump. New York prosecutors are currently investigating his financial dealings. New York’s attorney general is pursuing a civil investigation into whether Trump’s company misstated assets to get bank loans and tax benefits, and a Georgia district attorney is examining Trump’s election interference in the state to certify the election results in his favor.
