Nene Leakes son’ Brentt has shared an inside look at the last few months of his recovery. Brentt said on Oct. 21 that doctors diagnosed him with congestive heart failure in June.
Now, Brentt has shared videos of himself from a hospital bed and walking again. His caption explains his journey from diagnosis to 14-hour heart transplant surgery this past summer. Additionally, he says that his recovery includes relearning basic life skills.
“To begin with, let me say, ‘Thank you, God.’ This year was undoubtedly the craziest for me. After several trips to the hospital and many doctor appointments, I finally heard the unexpected news that I was diagnosed with ‘congestive heart failure’ on June 19. In July of this year, I went into a 14-hour heart transplant surgery and now have a brand new heart in me. Now that Im back (still in recovery) Ive essentially had to relearn how to walk and communicate, but Im even more fluent.”
The first video in Brentt Leakes’ carousel post shows him walking through a hospital hallway using a walker. A nurse trailed behind him with an IV bag. “I’m walking, y’all, I’m back walking, y’all, I can’t believe I’m walking,” Brent said, adding that it had been a couple of days since he last did it.
It appears the three videos he shared were filmed right after his surgery in July. The second clip in the post seemingly shows one of his early attempts at walking. Meanwhile, the third shows him in a hospital bed, saying, “Got a new heart in.” In the caption of his post, he thanked his mother and a few others, including the doctors and nurses who cared for him. He further shared that his new heart was donated.
“This experience has FOREVER changed my life. I am so thankful to the family that donated the heart! A huge thank you to MY MOM, Marshella , Nyoni, Big Janae , Nikiyah, my friends, doctors, nurses, and everyone else who was pushing, pulling and praying me thru this,” Brentt Leakes wrote.
Nene Leakes reacted to her son revealing his health update in the comment section. She wrote, “To God Be The Glory! It has been ALOT! I am so proud of how strong you’ve been thru this process son,” she wrote.
While Brentt Leakes has been recovering from major heart surgery, his brother Bryson was in media headlines in August after bodycam footage surfaced of his 2023 arrest. He seemingly has not shared any commentary on his brother’s recovery on social media.
