New York City Public Schools Now Going Vegan On Fridays

As #EricAdams continues to make adjustments as #NewYorkCity’s new mayor, his changes are impacting the schools district’s menu.

According to ABC News, Adams suggested #VeganFridays for students as he follows a plant-based diet.

“I can’t tell people what to put on their grills on the weekend. But darn it, we should not be feeding the health care crisis in our prisons, our hospitals, and most importantly, in our schools, so we want to go in a more healthy direction,” Adams told @nbcnewyork.

In 2019, it was reported that 40% of kids K-8 were overweight or obese, according to reports.

Vegan options are already part of the options for students, but starting today and continuing throughout the school year, the standard option will be vegan. Students can request a non Vegan meal. Since 2019, the largest school district has offered Meatless Mondays and Meatless Fridays to over 900K+ students.

“Friday’s menu included “vegan veggie tacos,” with a tortilla and salsa, with broccoli, and a carrot and lemon salad on the side. Other planned offerings this month include a Mediterranean chickpea dish with rice or pasta, and a black bean and plantain rice bowl.” ABC reports.

Roomies, what do you think of this?
