NFL Releases New “Football Is Gay” Video In Support Of Player Carl Nassib Recently Coming Out

Roommates, following the wave of support that NFL player Carl Nassib received after he announced that he was gay—the NFL is going one step further and showing their support with a very powerful statement. In a new video, the NFL firmly proclaimed its support of the LGBTQ+ community with the leading message, “Football Is Gay.”

The NFL took to social media earlier this week to show its ongoing solidarity to the LGBTQ+ community (and specifically player Carl Nassib) with a video declaring that “Football Is Gay.” Elsewhere in the video, the word “gay” is replaced with words such as “lesbian,” “beautiful,” “queer,” “transgender,” “power” and “life.” The video then ends with a message that read, “Football is for everyone.”

NFL diversity director Sam Rapoport, explained why the league released the video. “I am proud of the clear message this spot sends to the NFL’s LGBTQ+ fans: This game is unquestionably for you. I will be playing its first line over and over in my head all season,” he said.

As we previously reported, Carl Nassib instantly became a top trending topic on social media when he formally announced that he is gay and making history in the process. His announcement officially makes him the very first active NFL player to come out—and he said that his decision was inspired by wanting to increase visibility for the LGBTQ+ community.
