Here’s What Happened

According to Fox 8 Live, Minaj was scheduled to appear at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Lousiana, on Monday, March 18. However, the outlet reports that “just hours before the show,” her concert was “abruptly canceled.”

The Smoothie King Center’s official Instagram account took to the platform around 4 or 5 p.m. on Monday to let fans know why.

“Due to doctors orders, Nicki Minaj must reschedule her NOLA show tonight,” the center’s post reads. “As Nicki is still sick, our team does not want to run the risk of getting others sick, and Nicki would not be able to give NOLA the show they deserve. We are working diligently to find a new date, so please hold onto your tickets, and we will inform you all soon.”

The outlet adds that food and beverage vendors received an email about the cancellation on Monday afternoon. Still, some concertgoers appeared upset at the venue for only issuing a public announcement hours before the concert was scheduled to begin.

Instagram user @queen_anaiya1 reacted in the Smoothie King Center’s Instagram comments:
“nobody is mad bc she cancelled , its the fact they waited 4 hours before the event to tell us officially”
While Instagram user @youfound.kam added:
“Yall do realize people used there PTO, Paid for rooms, traveled & bought the tickets on top of that, that alone is $500-$1,500 trip especially if you got the GAG city package. They are more so upset due to the unprofessional. They definitely shouldve said something yesterday instead of hours before the show. Js ŸŸ definitely a waste of time and money because even if she does refund the tickets, they cant refund their place of stay and transportation. ŸŸŸŸ”
Some Nicki Minaj fans may have seen the mishap coming. On Saturday, March 16, Minaj had taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share that she wasn’t feeling well.
“Barbz pls send me healing energy. woke up feeling like I had Covid. Thank God I dont. You guys are just everything. I appreciate you. I love you so much,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, one Instagram user, @lifeasmyesha_, reiterated fans’ frustration with the Smoothie King Center’s late announcement:
“I’m from New Orleans…We are not mad about her being sick. We are mad that they cancelled the concert hours before it was suppose to start. People flew in for this concert. Some people probably took off work. Some people already got their hair and make up done before getting the news. I love Nicki but somebody could have said something sooner. This ain’t right!!”
According to the State Farm Arena’s official website, Minaj is scheduled to make her next tour stop in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday, March 20, and Thursday, March 21.
At this time, the arena has not shared any announcements about the stops being canceled.
