Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley was arrested and charged with felony assault at the start of his weekend! Arresting officers in Texas are calling the arrest a “family violence” incident, according to the Associated Press. In a new report from TMZ, Pat Bev is accused of punching his sister in the face and choking her out over an incident involving her boyfriend, Aiden Hilderbrand.
New details from the probable cause affidavit claim that the “family incident” included violence directed at his sister, per TMZ. She told officers she left their home in the middle of the night on November 14 without permission to meet Aiden at a park. When the sister returned home, her mother, Lisa, was reportedly awake and asked that the girl call Aiden Hilderbrand to come pick her up. When the 18-year-old arrived, Lisa allegedly told him to enter the house before calling Pat Bev over to the home. At this time, it’s unclear if the residence belongs to Lisa or Beverley.
When the pro-athlete arrived, he reportedly scolded his sibling before grabbing her “by the neck with both hands” and lifted her until her feet were off the ground. TMZ further reports that Patrick allegedly choked her for between 20 and 30 seconds. The sister told police that during that time she was in pain and felt like she couldn’t breathe.
From there, Pat Bev allegedly moved the sister by her neck and slammed her against the walls of an open room area in the home. He also reportedly laid her on a couch and punched her in the left eye once with his closed fist. Additionally, the sister told police that her brother said he’d be the family relative “to kill her.”
After the punch to the face, TMZ reports that Aiden Hilderbrand was told to leave, and when he did, Patrick Beverley allegedly followed behind. After her brother returned, the boyfriend reportedly called the police.
Officers noted marks on the sister’s neck and tiny, red/purple spots in the whites of her eyes known as petechiae. Those spots can appear in the eyes due to physical strain or pressure, according to the Cleveland Clinic, as well as other underlying causes. Officers arrested Beverley early Friday at the residence located in Rosharon, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office said. Bail was set at $40,000, which he reportedly posted to secure his release.
Via social media, Patrick Beverley told a different tale. He asked people not to “don’t believe everything you see on the internet.” He also reposted an unsigned statement saying he had unexpectedly found his sister, a minor, alone with an 18-year-old man.
“He was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described, and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court,” the statement said.
Beverley last played in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024. He previously was with the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Clippers and several other teams over his 12-year career.
Beverley’s arrest comes after another NBA baller had words for him. Earlier last week, Klay Thompson slid on Instagram to check Pav Bev and Jason Williams for their shade towards Megan Thee Stallion. The rapper and Klay made their relationship public over the summer in a series of social media posts. On a podcast called ‘Hoopin’ Hollerin’, the NBA vets suggested Meg is harming Thompson’s court performance. Thompson challenged the men to view their comments from his perspective and to “do better.”
