Polo G sparked a huge online debate after sharing he’s heard rumors that streaming is more financially lucrative than rapping.
Polo G Reignites Debate on Streaming vs. Rap
On Wednesday, Polo G took to his IG story to say:
“I wanna be a streamer one day too I heard they pay better than rap ”
The rapper’s Instagram comments brought the debate back regarding whether streamers earn more than rappers. Many supporters encouraged Polo G to explore streaming. However, others argued that pursuing it solely for the money might not lead to success.
The Ongoing Debate — Social Media Weighs In
From Polo Gs comments to a viral Airbnb clash, the conversation around rappers transitioning to streamingcontinues to spark strong opinions. This debate has continued as streamers like Kai Cenat, Adin Ross, and iShowSpeed have gained success, popularity and tons of money.
Earlier this month, a viral altercation between rappers Fivio Foreign, Lil Tjay, and streamer Plaqueboy Max sparked the debate. Social media users felt Max was disrespected when he asked the rappers to stop smoking.
This altercation riled up the net and struck opinions from streamers like
Akademiks. Who made a bold claim that rappers are now competing with streamers. He goes on to say
The cool factor of what a rapper was has been severely diminished. TeaMates Chime In
Instagram user @sierrasprague says, he not lying thats why these rappers be begging streamers to be on their stream streamers are the new method.”
Another Instagram user @iam.isiah said, If youre not a A-list artist like a Drake, Kendrick, Nicki Minaj, Latto you dont hold any weight against streamers rappers (arent) prominent anymore.”
Instagram user @elleshax.x said thats right but for nowww streamers shouldnt get tooo comfortable supporters are real flip floppy and streaming era will end too”
Rappers Turn to Streaming
A few years ago, DDG made a similar claim when he tweeted, “ngl.. youtubers/streamers make more money than rappers & its not even close.”
DDG is a prime example of an artist who thrives in the music and streaming worlds. If Polo G decides to pursue streaming, he wouldnt be the first rapper to explore this space. Other notable artists, including T-Pain, Soulja Boy, and Tee Grizzley, have also transitioned to streaming. TeaMates, are streamers the new rappers, let us know?!
