Roommates, we’re heartbroken to announce that boxing legend and entrepreneur George Foreman has passed away on Friday, March 21. TMZ reports that Foreman passed away at the age of 76.

Details On George Foreman’s Passing

George Foreman’s family confirmed his death in a heartfelt post on Instagram. His loved ones shared details about his legacy as a husband, father, and a proud grand and great-father in the post’s caption.

“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.”

Additionally, Foreman’s family thanked fans for their outpouring support, but asked for privacy as they mourn his loss.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own,” Foreman’s family captioned their IG post.

George Foreman leaves behind his wife, Mary Joan Martelly, and his 12 children five sons and seven daughters.

George Foreman created a lasting legacy with pivotal moments throughout his career. Known as “Big George,” he became a two-time heavyweight boxing champion. In 1968, he popped out on the scene at the Summer Olympics in Mexico City, winning a gold medal before defeating Joe Fraizer in Jamaica. At just 25, Foreman also faced Muhammad Ali in 1974 in the unforgettable “Rumble in the Jungle,” where he won by TKO in the 8th round. Later, Foreman later earned a spot in the International Boxing Hall of Fame, per CBS Sports.

Beyond boxing, he also took over as the face of the George Foreman Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine, which turned into one of the most successful indoor home products.
