Prayers Up! Man Reportedly Struck & Killed By Lightning While On Honeymoon In Florida

Jake Rosencranz, a 29-year-old Colorado man, was reportedly struck and killed by lightning while on his honeymoon in Florida.

Jake A. Rosencranz Is Reportedly Struck & Killed By Lightning

According to Daytona Beach News-Journal, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 20. Rosencranz was reportedly standing in ankle-deep water near 27th Avenue Beach when he was struck. Subsequently, lifeguards performed CPR on Jake Rosencranz, and he was taken to AdventHealth in New Smyrna Beach.

Per USA Today, the man was transported from the scene unresponsive. Additionally, PEOPLE reported that the man was unable to be revived and passed away the following day.

“He sadly lost his life from the injuries he sustained,” Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue spokesperson Tamra Malphurs told the outlet.

That same day, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood took to Facebook to share a post about the incident. Sheriff Chitwood asserted that he was “saying a prayer for this young man and his wife.”

“They were visiting our beaches to celebrate their marriage. In one terrifying second everything changed. My heart goes out to them tonight. I also want to thank everyone who worked so quickly to render aid and get him to the hospital for a fighting chance,” he added.

Per the outlet, authorities asserted that the couple was on their honeymoon.

PEOPLE adds that “strong showers” moved through Central Florida on June 20, with more than 170 lightning strikes being reported.

Another Man Was Struck By Lightning In New Jersey In 2023

As The Shade Room previously reported, in June 2023, Eric Baumgartner was working at Iselin Middle School as a public worker, attempting to repaint lines on the school’s soccer field. Amid the ordeal, he was reportedly struck by a single bot.

Ultimately, Baumgartner was found “unresponsive,” “without a pulse,” and taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
