President Trump Request Bigger Stimulus Payments For Americans (Update)

Many Americans have been patiently waiting for the second round of stimulus checks to be disbursed for months. Yesterday Congressional leaders and White House staff approved a roughly $900 billion COVID-19 relief package. The package will reportedly include enhanced federal jobless benefits, small-business funding, and money to distribute COVID-19 vaccines. According to CNBC, the dollar amount of the stimulus payments was announced that it would be $600 per person.

However, many were dissatisfied with the amount. Many felt that the amount was too low, and it wouldn’t be sufficient for families to catch up with bills and other expenses due to the pandemic. It even appears that President Trump is unhappy with the amount as well. Today he shared a video on Twitter where he discussed what he considers to be flawed about the bill. He said, “I’m asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000 or $4,000 for a couple.”

He also spoke out about other elements of the bill, including funding headed overseas, which came less than 24 hours after the Senate passed the measure. The foreign aid provisions are part of a $1.4 trillion measure to keep the government funded, paired with the Covid relief bill.

Many Roommates agreed with Trump. One commented, “As he should, thank you, Mr.President.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promptly responded to Trump on Twitter. She agreed with his request to increase the stimulus amount. She tweeted, “Republicans repeatedly refused to say what amount the President wanted for direct checks. At last, the President has agreed to $2,000 — Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it!”

Roomies, we will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
