Queen Latifah Reveals Her Toughest Role Was Playing a Gay Character In ‘Set It Off’

In the March issue of InStyle Magazine, #QueenLatifah had a tea party with #Blackish actress #TraceeEllisRoss where the Queen opened up about the toughest role she’s played to date.

She revealed that it was when she played Cleo in ‘Set It Off’ because she wasn’t sure of how people might treat her family for portraying a gay character on the big screen.

The actress tells Ross that she had to sit down with her younger siblings and prepare them for the backlash they might receive.

“Listen, I’m playing a gay character. Your classmates might tease you or say negative things about it,” she said. “But I’m doing it because I believe I can bring positive attention to the gay African-American community, and I believe that I can do a great job as an actor.”

Queen Latifah also speaks to Ross about the keys to living the life of your dreams and why she’s a fan of Solange!
