Queen Latifah To Receive Harvard’s W.E.B. Du Bois Medal For Her Contributions To Black Culture

We all can agree that Queen Latifah has made some everlasting contributions to the culture throughout her career. Now she will be awarded for all of her work and influence later this month.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Queen Latifah has been named as one of the seven honorees that will be awarded the W.E.B. Du Bois medal at Harvard University, as she is being recognized for her contributions to black history and the culture.

According to Harvard’s Hutchins Center for African & African America, the W.E.B Du Bois medal is “Harvard’s highest honor in the field of African and African American studies. It is awarded to individuals in the United States and across the globe in recognition of their contributions to African and African American culture and the life of the mind. Recipients have included scholars, artists, writers, journalists, philanthropists, and public servants whose work has bolstered the field of African and African American studies.”

The other six recipients that will be awarded along with Queen are, poet and educator Elizabeth Alexander, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution Lonnie Bunch III, poet Rita Dove, co-founder of Black Entertainment Television Sheila Johnson, artist Kerry James Marshall and Robert Smith, founder, chairman, and chief executive of Vista Equity Partners.

As we previously reported, back in 2018 Dave Chapelle and Colin Kaepernick were awarded the same honor for their contributions as well.

Congrats to all of the honorees.
