Last night, we reported about the screening for the new Lifetime docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” being evacuated due to a gun threat.
Variety spoke with R. Kelly’s ex-wife Drea Kelly, who was present at the screening, and she said she believes the threat was connected to the singer.
She said, “I can’t speak to what he would or would not do because I don’t know what his mindset is right now. But I would say that I don’t believe in happenstance, I don’t believe that anything is a coincidence. I do believe that in some shape, form or fashion it is connected to him. Now, whether he orchestrated it or not, that I cannot say. But I just do not believe in coincidences. Of all the theaters, of all the nights, of all the premiers, it happened with us.”
According to the site, the evacuation took place 15 minutes into the discussion that followed the screening. Seven of the accuser featured in the project were there to speak about their experiences.
There were two anonymous calls made to the venue where the caller claimed that someone inside had a gun. Police were contacted and recommended the venue be evacuated.
Kitti Jones, Asante Jones, Faith Rodgers, Lizzette Martinez, Lisa Van Allen, and Jerhonda Pace were also among the other accusers that were present.
Kelly and Andrea Kelly were married for 10 years and divorced in 2006. Andrea claims that the singer abused her during their marriage.
“Surviving R. Kelly” premieres on Lifetime on January 3rd.
