Rachel Dolezal Resigns As NAACP’s Spokane Chapter President !!

After breaking the Internet over the controversy of her racial identity, Rachel Dolezal has stepped down as the president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP. Can’t say we didn’t see this coming.

In a statement posted on the organization’s FaceBook page Dolezal says its what’s best for the organization.

“In the eye of this current storm, I can see that a separation of family and organizational outcomes is in the best interest of the NAACP. It is with complete allegiance to the cause of racial and social justice and the NAACP that I step aside from the presidency and pass the baton to my Vice President, Naima Quarles-Burnley.”

 She goes on to say,

“While challenging the construct of race is at the core of evolving human consciousness, we can NOT afford to lose sight of the five Game Changers (Criminal Justice & Public Safety, Health & Healthcare, Education, Economic Sustainability, and Voting Rights & Political Representation) that affect millions, often with a life or death outcome,” Dolezal wrote.

She was only in her position for less than a year before her parents outted her for pretending to be African American even though she is in fact white.

In her defense, According to the NY Times, “N.A.A.C.P officials and other community leaders said she had represented herself as being of partly black ancestry, and she checked boxes for white, black and Native American on her application to the city for the ombudsman commission, where she was appointed by the mayor.”

It is unclear if she will be resigning from her part-time teaching position in African-American studies at Eastern Washington University or give up her membership on the Spokane police ombudsman commission.

Let’s chat below, do you think Rachel Dolezal should have stayed ?
