Whew Chile! Some people just don’t know when to keep their comments to themselves! Radio analyst Tim Ryan was suspended from his position this week for some outlandish comments he made about Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. Now, he’s saying he didn’t mean it!
According to ESPN, while commenting on Lamar’s ability to successfully pull off fake handoff’s during a game, Tim Ryan says Lamar is able to camouflage the dark ball because he has dark skin. He says his comment was taken out of context, and some players say they weren’t even outraged.
“I know Tim personally and I have listened to the dialogue and saw it written and honestly I wasn’t as outraged as everybody else,” 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman said. “I understand how it can be taken under a certain context and be offensive to some, but if you’re saying ‘Hey, this is a brown ball, they’re wearing dark colors and he has a brown arm’.”
Mark Ingram also spoke about Tim’s comments, saying Tim may have gone a little too far when describing the team’s ball handling skills.
“I guess he went to extreme measures to justify why our ball-handling is great,” Ingram said. “He went to extreme measures the didn’t really make sense.”
In a playful play-by-lay comment, Tim’s exact words were: “His dark skin color, with a dark football, with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing. I mean you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point.”
After his comments, the 49ers moved quickly to suspend him from his duties for this week’s game. The team also released a statement noting the suspension, and apologized to the Ravens for the comments.
Dennis Brown, a former defensive lineman for the 49ers, will replace Tim Ryan in the booth during Sunday’s game.
What are your thoughts, Roomies? Were his comments lighthearted and taken out of context? Or did he say what he said?! Let us know in the comment section!
