Rhonda Rousey paid a visit to the Ellen DeGeneres show recently; and although most are used to talking about the fun stuff that happened on the show, many are discussing Rhonda’s comment about considering suicide.
Many of you may remember Rhonda’s big loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 last November. It was the talk of the town for some time and as many considered, it took a toll on Rhonda. But we learned it took a bigger toll than expected. She opened up to Ellen telling her that after the fight she contemplated committing suicide.
“I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself and that exact second I’m like, ‘I’m nothing, what do I do anymore and no one gives a shit about me anymore without this,’” she said. “I did a lot of thinking and I was like, ‘Why did this happen?'” She continued, “I do believe all the best things come from the worst things. Every worst thing that happened in my life resulted in the absolute best things … [So I’m thinking] maybe just winning all the time isn’t what’s best for everybody…Everyone has their moment of picking themselves off the floor … Maybe I just had to be that example of picking myself up off the floor for everyone [else], maybe that’s what I’m meant for.”
She says the thought of a future with her boyfriend Travis Browne is the only thing that kept her balanced.
“I looked at him and I was like, ‘I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive.’”
The fight was crucial but we never expected the thought of suicide to follow it. We hear Rhonda and Holly are supposed to be facing off again, however, a date for that rematch has not been released yet.
