Earlier this month, Safaree Samuels petitioned the court to lower his child support payments to his children’s mother, Erica Mena. His request to reduce the $4,305 monthly payments set off a chain of events. Ultimately, the former couple dragged each other online with words and home surveillance footage. Within the same time frame, though, Safaree apparently spent a HUGE bag on his former TV boo, Amara La Negra, for her 34th birthday.
As mentioned, Amara La Negra celebrated her 34th on Oct. 4. However, Safaree Samuels’ gift reveal occurred this week in one of his latest YouTube vlog episodes. He shared the 33-minute video on Oct. 20.
At the start of the vlog, Safaree explained that he asked Amara if anyone had gifted her anything for her birthday. After she told him a cake and flowers, he decided to slide by with a special surprise. While driving there, the ‘Love & Hip Hop’ star seemingly addressed why he and Amara aren’t dating.
You might recall that the two had a brief on-screen fling, but in August 2023, she suggested on social media that their relationship was for “good ratings.”
“Amara…we’re just great greats. We just gel really well and sometimes when you gel really well with somebody that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to jump their bones.
Later in the video, Safaree, Amara, and her mother are standing in the kitchen as he preps her gift: a 10-carat VVS diamond necklace. The pendant was custom-designed to mirror Amara’s curves and signature afro. After she opened the powder-blue-colored box, La Negra and her mami were clearly impressed! Her mother even gave Samuels a hug while Amara repeatedly said, “Awww.”
The price tag of the custom necklace is unclear, but this isn’t the first time Safaree has spent a bag on Amara. In April 2023, a circulating video showed him gifting Amara’s twin daughters, Sumajestad Royalty and Sualteza Empress, Rolex watches for their first birthday. At that same party, Safaree and Amara had a special “royal” dance and shared what appeared to be their first public kiss.
Erica Mena didn’t take the moment lightly. She slid into The Shade Room’s comment section to call her kids’ dad a “deadbeat clown” who doesn’t go all out for his own kids.
Needless to say, some social media users expected Erica Mena to give the same energy as she did with the birthday watches. But instead of dragging her ex-husband over his generous gift-giving, Mena kept her social media focus on herself and their kids, Safire and Legend.
On Instagram Stories on Tuesday (Oct. 22), Mena shared a video of herself enjoying coffee, Safire drawing a cat, and screenshots of her Instagram engagement insights, which show 227 million views on her profile in the last 30 days.
One video she reposted discussed not wasting pain. She added text to the clip, writing, “My pain attracted all this attention. Best believe my unfortunate circumstance will have a purpose.”
Mena also shared a video of Safire at gymnastics practice and one photo result from ashoot featuring Safire and Legend. So, for now, it appears the mother of three is stickingto her commitment to cut out her internet drags of Safaree. (If you didn’t know, Mena has another son who she has previously said does not like to be in the spotlight.) Her posts on Tuesday follow her going viral recently for a sweet video featuring her, Safire,and Legend.
While Samuels’s gift-giving and Erica Mena’s possible reaction were the talk of the internet, he’s paying attention to only one thing. The ‘LHH’ star took to social media to celebrate reaching 100,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel. In a video, he popped a wheelie on a four-wheeler and cruised around his neighborhood.
