This week the Supreme Court Confirmation Hearing for Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has been going down, and on the third day, Cory Booker delivered a few words of encouragement for Jackson, that not only brought her to tears but some of the people in the room, as well as many folks around the world.
While Judge Jackson received numerous questions from Booker’s GOP colleagues as they challenged her ability to sit on the highest court in the nation, Senator Booker took the time to reassure Jackson that she is very deserving of the position she is currently in and that she is an inspiration to many around the world.
While getting emotional himself, Booker said, “You got here how every Black woman in America who’s gotten anywhere has done, by being like Ginger Rogers said, ‘I did everything Fred Astaire did but backward, in heels.'”
“It’s hard for me not to look at you and not see my mom, not to see my cousins — one of them who had to come here and sit behind you,” he continued. “She had to have your back. I see my ancestors and yours.” He expressed the joy that Judge Jackson’s nomination has brought to many people.
Booker made it clear to Jackson, “You have earned this spot, you are worthy, you are a great American. That is the story of how you got to this desk.”

As previously reported, back in February, President Joe Biden elected Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court. If confirmed, Judge Jackson will become the 116th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and the first Black woman to hold the position.
