Serena Williams Publicly Supports Maria Sharapova Amid Banned Substance Scandal

Earlier this week, tennis player Maria Sharapova held a press conference earlier this week where she admitted she had tested positive for performance enhancing drugs at the Australian Open. Since then, the athlete has lost $11 million in endorsements to include Nike, Porsche and Tag Heuer. Surprisingly, Serena Williams is the first athlete to publicly support Sharapova considering Maria tried to say Serena was having an affair with a married man way back when …but we’ll get to that in a sec!

Anyways during a press conference in New York this Tuesday, Serena reached out to Maria in support of her for coming out about her doping incident. She said, “I think most people were happy she was upfront and very honest and showed a lot of courage to admit to what she had done and what she had neglected to look at in terms of the list at the end of the year. It’s just taking responsibility, which she admitted that she was willing to do and ready to do. Just hope for the best for everybody in that situation.”

The reason why this is ironic is because back in 2013,  Maria Sharapova shaded tf out of Serena when she accused Serena of sleeping with a married man!

Sporting News:

“Maria Sharapova went on the attack Saturday vs. Serena Williams during her pre-tournament news conference at Wimbledon, taking a shot at Williams’ personal life and criticizing Williams’ comments over a high-profile teen rape case in Ohio.

“Obviously I have a tremendous amount of respect for Serena and what she’s achieved on the court,” Sharapova told reporters. “If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids. Talk about other things, but not DRAW attention to other things.””

Glad to see that it is all water under the bridge!
