Sha’Carri Richardson ended up in handcuffs on Thursday, January 29, after reportedly racing dangerously on Florida roads.
According to ABC News, authorities booked Sha’Carri Richardson into Orange County, Florida, on January 29 after allegedly speeding over 100 miles per hour. Per Wesh, deputies reportedly pulled over the Olympic track star after she allegedly hit 104mph on SR 429 near Stoneybrook Parkway. Sha’Carri was also reportedly “dangerously tailgating” and weaving across lanes to pass other drivers. Shortly after her arrest, her mugshot surfaced, showing her rocking a black top and cornrow-style braids. Jail records reportedly show that Sha’Carri is still behind bars with a $500 bond.
Less than a day after Sha’Carri’s mugshot hit the internet, bodycam footage popped up showing the moments leading up to her arrest. TMZ shared the video, which shows the 25-year-old sitting in her car while an officer spoke to her through the passenger-side window. The officer told Sha’Carri she was going to jail for dangerously speeding and using flashing lights to make other drivers move out of her way. Sha’Carri told the cop her back tire was underinflated, which she said caused her to speed. She also claimed her phone accidentally hit buttons and changed her car’s settings, and she didn’t know how to fix them.As the officer walked her through what would happen next, the track star pleaded with him to not put her in handcuffs.
“I was not intentionally doing anything. Please sir, I promise you.. I will do anything. I don’t want to go to jail. I was not intentionally doing anything,”Sha’Carri explained.
Despite her mugshot and bodycam footage hitting the internet, Sha’Carri wasted no time getting back on the track literally on Friday Jan. 30. She posted a boomerang-style video on Instagram showing herself smiling and walking the track. She captioned the clip, “Great day at practice!”

Roomies, more details about Sha’Carri’s arrest keep coming out. Turns out, the sprinter wasn’t the only one who ended up in handcuffs, her boyfriend Christian Coleman was arrested during the same traffic stop for drug paraphernalia and resisting, according to TMZ.
Authorities say a black Jeep pulled up near the scene, and Coleman hopped out and waited by his vehicle. When the officer stepped away to handle paperwork, Coleman reportedly walked back to the traffic stop, but the officer told him to return to his car. As he headed back to the Jeep, police claim he dropped an object in the grass. From there, officers said Christian refused to stay out of the stop and repeatedly tried to explain Sha’Carr’s speed in an effort to keep her out of jail. Even after Sha’Carri identified him as her boyfriend, officers asked Coleman for his ID, but he allegedly refused to present it. That led authorities to arrest him for resisting.
When officers searched Christian Coleman’s Jeep, they found a reported “glass smoking device” in the center console, along with a bowl that appeared used but cleaned, with a small amount of reen, leafy plant material suspected to be cannabis. He later posted a $1,000 bond, paying $500 for each charge.
Sha’Carri’s Florida arrest isn’t her first legal run-in. Back in July 2025, the sprinter got arrested after an altercation with her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. TMZ obtained footage showing Sha’Carri in the middle of the argument. She spent 19 hours in jail before getting released. Then in August, she took to Instagram Stories to talk about the incident, saying she’s been reflecting on what happened and holding herself fully accountable for her actions.
“A lot of self-reflection, a lot of understanding of not only putting myself in a compromising situation but somebody that I have a deep care and appreciation for as well is something that I’m holding myself accountable for,” she explained.
